== Summary ==
Overburn is an extremely risky tactic in magecraft which allows the user to draw mana in to their body in a similar manner to [[The Origin|Original Magic]]. By using this ability through their focus, they are able to cast spells even if they do not have the slots or reagents left. This comes with great risk of shattering the focus and knocking them unconscious, but may be the difference between life and death. Yet miscasting is not the only risk that plagues this ability. Due to casting in a way like original magic, major corrosion sickness occurs, causing great danger and only increasing depending on the tier of the spell.

== Overburn System ==
Overburn occurs when a magecraft user casts a spell without the reagents or spell slots necessary to achieve their desired result. Using their aurum to cast instead of their focus causes greater strain on both, as this magic is not built to sustain spellcasting in that way, which often causes miscasting and worse, corrosion sickness.

=== Casting with Overburn ===
Casting with overburn must be specified when you cast the spell by adding some sort of motif like O: or some such. The simplest terms is that after notifying and attempting to cast the spell on your turn, you roll a 1d20 with a base DC, increased by how many times you've successfully casted with overburn as listed below. In addition, your corrosion sickness stacks double and you take between 1 to 3 stacks of corrosion sickness afterwards, depending on the spells tier.

=== Mechanics ===
*Casting with overburn requires a 1d20 roll. No modifiers are given unless an item or ability specifies overburn.
**Base DC is 5.
**DC increases by the tier of spell casted successfully with overburn.

*Corrosion Sickness stacks are doubled on the caster regardless of result, and they also take a number of stacks equal to the tier of the spell if successfully casted afterwards.
*Example: The caster successfully casted a tier 3 spell with overburn, and has 3 stacks of corrosion sickness already. Their corrosion sickness now has 9 stacks.

If a caster fails the DC, their focus shatters and releases a loud explosion, consuming them in a violent burst of mana and sending them to 0 HP, bypassing all abilities that may prevent them from dropping below 1. They also lose the rest of their remaining spell slots, if any remain. There is no way to resist this damage, and it cannot be shared.
