Death and Revival

Dying in the multiverse is not the most difficult of feats to the mortal man. It is something that can be achieved by the smallest step in the wrong direction-or by facing the terror of the unknown head on. Regardless of how they died, one thing is certain.

Death does not always mean the end.

Revivals are a simple, yet fickle thing. Though often possible by means other than the divine, no other route of revival is more reliable than that of the Ascended, Arvora’s chosen which lead a life of virtue to uphold her holy tenants, and revive the deceased who's death had come before their true time.

OOC Rules:

Users will be subjected to a 7 Day timer when attempting to revive. This timer is how long it will take the ascended to be able to recreate the body of someone who has died. This timer can be shortened, as an ascended can perform a manual resurrection sooner should a the characters body be recovered, and presented for healing and revival. The first Ascended revival only takes 24 hours to rebuild everything necessary if it is the first time you are reviving via the ascended. All users who have died, regardless of necromantic, blessed or ascended revival will go through the effects of Morto's Malady upon reviving. Characters who commit suicide will not be revived. Assisted Suicide will not allow for revival. Players who kill their own characters [Ex: Death by cancer, falling off a bridge and drowning, etc.] will not be revived. Characters who die in a repeated fashion, while knowing the cause of their death, will not revive. Ex: Trying to attack the same region after dying the first time and dying again. [Subject to Moderation Team Verification] All revivals must take place within the 14 Days of the death occurring, barring circumstances which state that they pause such timers. Revivals performed by players, the Event Team, or Lore Team count towards a universal revival counter, but will not influence the Time limit on revivals or the time limit on the recovery of the body unless they are revived less then an OOC hour after their death, upon which case it does not count as a death. All revivals MUST be logged in the revival logs section, or the revival is considered illegal and illegitimate and can be subjected to void by Lore or Moderation Team. Blessed can freely revive a person who has died up to 3 times without question. After the 3rd universal death, the decision on permadeath or revival falls to Lore team regarding revivals. Necromancers and other stated exceptions do not have such limits. A character will have any memories relating to their death modified as per the death memory penalty. This will occur upon the characters first revival, be this animal, other body, or actual body. The Moderation team may withhold a revival for the purposes of investigatory action. If this is done, the 14 day timer will be suspended. The 14 day timer will restart after the investigation closes. Lore Team may provide exception to the 14 day rule on an as needed basis. The timer only applies to the first RP related to the revival. This means that a character must interact with the specific reviver within the limit, and start the revival process, even if this means not waiting for the body to be restored. This may force characters with no body to revive as someone else, or an animal to meet the time limit requirement. If the timer goes over while the rp for revival is in process, the timer can be safely ignored.

Ascended Specific Rules:

The ascended can freely revive a person who has died up to 5 times without question. After the 5th universal death, the decision on permadeath or revival falls to Lore team regarding ascended revivals. Users Trialed, Or Post Mortem Trialed with a Guilty vote during a requested Ascended Presence will not be revived. [Subject to Moderation Team Verification] There are multiple means of revival available when it comes to the Ascended. Wait for the timer to run down, and their body can be re-created and eventually revived. Occupy an available body from the Spirit Trees stockpile. This stockpile must be maintained through legitimate acquisition of “No Longer Required Bodies” Occupy an animal, or other entity for the duration of their revival timer as a means to continue to RP, however no special traits will be provided to said animal, and they will be unable to talk, or properly interact with other people during this time. Should a user die again while occupying a temporary body, they must wait out the rest of their revival timer before being able to be revived into their normal body. Users may choose to say in this body at the end of the timer if they so please. They can simply decline to be revived normally. This option while requested may not always be available due to stockpiles, and is also at the discretion of the reviver.

Spirit Tree Specific Rules:

The Spirit Tree’s Ward area provides faster healing to anyone resting in the beds. This accelerated healing effect is limited to the beds, and only applies while the character is sleeping. Example: Instead of taking 6 OOC days to mend a broken bone, it’d take 3. Anyone pending revival by the Ascended have their souls form into what is effectively "Ghosts" and are able to move around and manifest within the spirit tree, allowing them to rp 24 OOC hours after their death and until their revival. They are incapable of leaving the bounds of the tree. Their memories have already been altered in this state, so they do not remember their death or anything regarding it.

Souls

The soul of a living being is connected to the body by unseen forces known as “tethers”. These tethers extend from the soul and root it within a body in order to provide life to the being. When living things are injured, the tethers that connect the soul to the body are weakened. When the tethers that connect the soul to the body are severed, death occurs. When death occurs, the soul drifts up out of the body, and lingers nearby for 24 OOC hours. Player Character souls can remain by the body for up to 2 OOC weeks. Their souls will remain for this time period unless a revival application is made on the forums. If a player character is not revived within this 2 OOC week timespan, the soul will move on to the afterlife, resulting in a permadeath. Player Character souls may demonstrate a “will to live”, determined by a viable revival request made through a revival application on the forums. The souls of player characters that demonstrate a “will to live” (apply on the forums for revival) move to the Ascended Soul Well. Souls can move to the Well as early as 24 OOC hours after death, but no sooner. Travel to the Soul Well is immediate. Souls in the Ascended Soul Well will remain present for 2 OOC weeks (14 OOC days) after the moment of death. If the soul is not put in a temporary or recreated permanent body prior to the end of the 2 weeks, the soul will move on to the afterlife, resulting in a permadeath. Plants, animals, and NPC souls do not demonstrate a “will to live”. Their souls do not return to the Ascended Soul Well and instead move on to the afterlife once the initial 24 OOC hours after death have passed.

Ascended Revivals & Memory Penalty

When a player applies on the forums for an Ascended revival, their soul is demonstrating the “will to live” and calls out to the IC revivers for resurrection. An Ascended revival cannot occur until a soul has arrived to the Ascended Soul Well. Player Characters that do not have their body returned to the Spirit Tree will have varying revival times. See the Revival Rules for more information.

When a soul is placed into a body for the first time during an Ascended revival, all memories associated with the death automatically become blurry. This blurring is not done by the Ascended and cannot be prevented/undone. The Ascended do not see the memories. The character will not be able to figure out who killed them from these memories, but will still vaguely remember how they died. This blurred memory is traumatic and will result one or more of the following: Phantom Pains Phobias/Fears Nightmares/Trouble Sleeping
