Description

Kalapis root is largely considered an anomaly, created from the mixture of an innocent weed, and the vortex of a magical storm. At least that's what the stories like to tell. Either way, the stem of this large green stalk is quite hard to miss, as near the bottom it carries a creamy white color of itself, and reaches up to 24 inches toward the sky, eventually forming a dark shade of green. The color transition is unique in each weed and can vary from plant to plant, however, the leaf patterns never change, and are the biggest indication if you believe to have stumbled upon one.

The leaf patterns are always rigid, and almost serrated in a strange way, while, unlike regular leaves, the primary core swirls, almost like a torrent of water passing through the very heart of the leaf, and is always unique to each one, like a fingerprint or the wings of a butterfly. Kalapis produces no flower, and appears simply as annoying weed for the most part, though it is what is under that truly counts. The roots of the Kalapis are small- very small, only 1-2 inches thick, and barely three inches in depth. Harvesting this plant takes great care, and requires the excavation of the land around it to be safely harvested and cleaned.

Location

Kalapis can be found in densely forested regions of Aversia, and is normally mistaken as if it were but a simple weed. It grows close to the ground, with small leaves that reach above to gather the sunlight that passes through the canopy. It does not grow without the humidity, and thickness of the canopy. However, Kalapis can only be found near the spider-like veins of Arcana that stretch throughout the world. Kalapis uses the Arcane energy that filters through the ground near leylines to grow, as a portion of its biological feast. It is for this reason, that the Kalapis cannot grow away from a leyline, and is the root of its semi-magical properties.

Development

Kalapis grows seemingly from nothing, being a natural weed within the soil of Aversia, and takes around [4 OOC] Months to grow. Kalapis carries no seeds, and cannot be farmed through any natural means, however thick patches of it do tend to regrow, even after a full harvest.

The nature of Kalapis reproduction is unknown to the realm and is assumed by legend to be semi-magical in its properties. Somehow, it appears as a unique variation of the original plant, which can be traced in truth to the unique nature of each plant's stalk-like and unique leaves.

Material Properties

  • Kalapis roots, and stems, are too weak to be used for any structural object.
  • Kalapis leaves are too thin, and awkwardly shaped to be used for much.

Alchemical Properties

  • Can cure stomach ailments, nausea, fatigue, skin ailments, and pain. It can even close small wounds with just its moisture.
  • Grinding the root causes the regenerative properties to change, and shift toward restoration, rather than scabbing.
  • Boiling the root causes the regenerative properties to change, and shift toward scabbing and clotting, rather than restoration.
  • Using the root raw as a consumable can heal internal bleeding, and fix bone fractures.
  • Kalapis is incredibly addictive, and after continuous use, withdrawals can be deadly.
  • The Root can only grow near Leylines, and cannot be harvested, farmed, or cultivated. It must be found wild.
