Description
Ilwenal is a beautiful flower that is said to be a gift from Arvora herself. This small, frail plant is barely held aloft by a 12-inch stem that is very thin, barely larger than a pencil in diameter and thickness. Its gentle, smooth green stem is said to be Arvora's silk, carrying a very smooth texture akin to that of the incredibly rare and coveted Auraweave, though filled with a milky and sticky liquid if not dried and cultivated properly. Two large, thickly-grained leaves cover up the stem, almost like a protective cup. These leaves sprout from the very base of the plant's stalk, just above ground level, eventually growing to barely reach against the large tulip-like bulb at the top of the plant.
The roots of the plant seem to carry no special properties and have a somewhat bitter taste to them if consumed, though not a single major side effect occurs. The flowers spread through winding root systems, and sprout similar to the fungal nature of a mycelium, but do not venture too far from the origin point of their taking root. No more than a single square foot. The mythical, and relatively legend-bound portion of the plant is said the bulbous flower, which can come in a variety of colors and is easily mistaken for a strange tulip. The colors of an Ilwenal bulb can range through every primary color, and a few secondary colors such as yellow, blue, green, orange, and even a luminescent hot pink.
The feel of the bulb is actually quite rough, as it has been granted by the Earth Mother, the ability to allow easier access for bees and other pollinating creatures wanting to climb up its otherwise sweet-scented structure. Within the protective bulb lies a Crescent-shaped center, in which all the pollen and spores collect. To harvest this plant, one simply needs to harmlessly "pick" the flower from the bottom of its stem, and keep it contained delicately until it dries out. it must be picked while the bulb is open, or else the effects are null and void. However, the bulb is only open during the hottest parts of the day. Harvesting at any other time will result in the death of all uses of the plant. It may only also be preserved for a single sept, (one OOC day) unless utilizing complicated methods of preservation that do not harm the base chemicals.
Location
Scattered throughout Tropical locations in Aversia, this plant is considered but a legend for most people. Only the most skilled and knowledgeable of Alchemists and Herbalists can even determine what the plant is or have seen one at some point in time. Very few have ever discovered its existence, let alone seen one in person. Ilwenal can be found throughout any place that holds a decent amount of heat- though is not to be found in the Northern reaches, as it is simply far too cold for the frozen tundra landscapes. Found roughly beneath trees, and in the underbrush, Ilwenal can be easily missed while wandering through the forest or mistook for another simple plant.
Development
Ilwenal plants start their infancy as simple seedlings and grow fully to the point of harvesting over 2 [OOC] months. Once finished, the flower lies dormant until during the springtime months of Aversia, when their bulbs shall open in the mid-day, around noon from Early Spring, to Late Summer, in which their bulbs will be wide open, and their almost magical effects are able to be found. After these periods of time, the Ilwenal plants will quickly go dormant, protecting themselves by forming a thick layer of sap-like mucus within themselves. Attempt to harvest during this time, result in the mucus destroying the entirety of the plant's special effects.
Material Properties
- Ilwenal flowers possess silken, surfactant surfaces that shed water easily and can be used as a one-time alchemical purifier to double the potency of a single potion by absorbing all the extra liquids within.
- Ilwenal stalks can be divided into fibrous additions to ropes, that give it a mild stretching property and make bow strings nigh-unbreakable.
- Ilwenal will always carry 4 petals, no more, no less.
Alchemical Properties
- The Ilwenal crescent core carries an ability both legendary and supposedly magical- even raw core is a cure for any disease, curse, or otherwise affliction that is affecting a person or being when eaten, and is even stronger when applied with a variety of other solutions.
- The petals carry an extreme regenerative effect if grounded up and amplified with the various base items that exist within Alchemy, though only in equal quantities. It can heal wounds from a mortal strike down into a minor scab in less than a minute.
