Swimming Rules
From Ephimoria Wiki
Overview
Swimming can often be a dangerous gamble for many species whose primary method of transport is feet or hooves. They are often built more for land then for the oceans and lakes which flood the world. In these cases however, some are more deft then others in the water. Different races have different speeds and modifiers while at the mercy of water, and this gets even more intense depending on just how deep they are beneath the surface.
Water Depth
The depths of the water is divided into 5 categories, each with their own mechanics that affect the tiers in different ways. They are Shallow waters, Deep Waters, Oceanic Waters, The Deep Ocean and the Underdark.
- Shallow waters are generally those in which you are still capable of standing up within easily, and though slower then normal you can either choose to use your swimming speed within them, or your base movement -2. You also suffer no penalties due to water, and are unrestricted in your turn.
- Deep waters are those where you can no longer feel the bottom of the water, and are the places where some dangers often lurk. You must use your swimming speed while in deep water, and full penalties due to water apply. You are also only capable of taking one option, between movement or an action unless you are of rank C or higher in swimming.
- Oceanic waters are far from the shoreline, and often contain the full range and wrath that the seas have to offer. You must use your swimming speed while in oceanic water, and full penalties due to water apply. You are also only capable of taking one option, between movement or an action unless you are of rank B or higher in swimming.
- The deep ocean is near the bottom of where conventional wisdom of aquatics goes. What you find down there is often in the dark, and with very little safety to the horrors which lurk beneath. You must use your swimming speed while in the deep ocean, and full penalties due to water apply. You are also only capable of taking one option, between movement or an action unless you are of rank A or higher in swimming.
- The underdark defies the reality that we know. It is a place few venture to, and where even fewer return. The worlds best kept secrets wait beneath, and its greatest terrors. You must use your swimming speed while in the underdark, and full penalties due to water apply. You are also only capable of taking one option, between movement or an action unless you are of Rank A+ in swimming.
